1. Schedule an Appointment

Current students can make an appointment with any College of Business advisor on MyPlan. To access MyPlan, login through your student Blackboard account.

If you wish to discuss probation or dismissal, you MUST make an appointment!

Examples of questions that need appointments: planning your fall schedule, questions about your major/a double major

If you know you want to change your major or declare a minor you don't need to make an appointment. The front desk has forms to make these changes.

Bring your printed Degree Audit in PDF format or your laptop with your Degree Audit pulled up on the screen.

2. Walk-in Advising

Hours: 8:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Office Location: College of Business Administration (CBA) 114

Walk-in advising is an alternative to making an appointment with one of the advisors in our office; however, it is more limited than scheduling an appointment with an advisor. Walk-in advising allows a student to come in at their own desired time, but it is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, so a student may have to wait. Plan accordingly!

Bring your printed Degree Audit in PDF format or your laptop with your Degree Audit pulled up on the screen.

Walk-in appointments are expected to answer questions in 15 minutes or less. If you believe your question will take longer than 15 minutes, we suggest that you make an appointment.

Examples of questions for a walk-in: course options for degree requirement, issues with registration, study success help, questions about a minor.

There are no advisors available Tuesdays 8-10 a.m., due to staff meetings.

3. Front Desk Questions

Our friendly Senior Office Associate and Staff Assistants may be able to answer some of your academic related questions. Examples of common questions we would be glad to help you with include:

  • Requesting a change of major form
  • Requesting a schedule adjustment formfor open classes that have already started
  • Questions about transfer credit — forms, information
  • Questions about permission codes — information, process and submission guidance
  • Questions regarding grades — grade replacement, specifics on class grade requirements
  • Questions concerning the Academic Calendar

4. Ask an Advisor

If your question is still unanswered, then you can use this form to ask an advisor a question. Not all questions can be answered in a single email, and questions that require an extensive response may require you to schedule an appointment.

5. Skype Advising Appointment (select students abroad only)

The College of Business offers virtual academic advising sessions through Skype for students who are unable to make a phone call or physically travel to the Nebraska campus. In-person advising is still the preferred method; however, Skype advising is ideal for students who are currently residing or studying abroad, a new freshman/transfer student located in an international setting, or a prospective/former Nebraska student who does not live in the United States and is trying to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The appointment is the same length as a face-to-face meeting but with some technology requirements:

  • You must have an internet connection and be willing to download and install a plugin on your computer.
  • You will need a headset or microphone to be able to talk with the advisor, as well as a webcam so the advisor can see you.
  • It is recommended to use a PC or Mac laptop or desktop computer or tablet; please do not use your mobile device for your advising appointment.

Transfer Credit

If you are a current Nebraska student and plan to take a course at another institution, you will first want to make sure that you know how the credits will transfer and apply toward your Nebraska degree. Follow these steps to determine how your course(s) will transfer:
  1. Discuss your plans with a Nebraska academic advisor. The College of Business in particular has rules about the number and types of courses you can transfer to count toward your business degree. Visit with an advisor to make sure you abide by these transfer credit rules. Also inquire about how transfer credit can impact degree sequencing, Nebraska course registration, and GPA/grade requirements.
  2. Use Transferology to find a transfer course. Transferology contains information on how courses transfer to Nebraska. After you create a Transferology account, you can use the “Find a Replacement Course” function to find a course at another institution that will transfer to Nebraska to fulfill your degree requirements.
  3. Can’t find a transfer course you need on Transferology? Transferology only includes those courses that have been previously evaluated by Nebraska. Your intended transfer institution may offer the course that you need; the course just may need to be evaluated by departmental faculty. You can work with an academic advisor to get a course evaluated. To start this process, obtain a detailed course syllabus for the transfer course you want to take and submit it to your advisor.
  4. Register for the transfer course after making sure that the course will transfer to Nebraska and count toward your degree.
  5. Submit final transcripts to the Nebraska Admissions office when the course is complete. Should you need the transfer course to register for a course at Nebraska, fill out a "Request for Prerequisite Override" form.
